Angular bending.-A tool for bending metal fabric of the type consisting of longitudinal and transverse wires for use particularly as a reinforcement for concrete, comprises a series of hooks or like means which are passed through the fabric and moved laterally to engage adjacent strand wires, a plate or the like to engage the fabric in a line parallel with the hooks, and means such as a handle for causing the hooks and plates to exert oppositely-directed pressures on the fabric to bend the intervening portion of the strand wires. A tool as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 for bending the fabric so that the portion 3, Fig. 1, between the beams 5 is near the bottom of the slab 7 whereas the portions 9 are near the top thereof, consists of a bed-plate 11 provided with a series of integral or detachable hooks 13, a guide 15 projecting slightly beyond the hooks, and a handle 26. The plate is slotted at 24 for the connection of a bending-plate 18, adjustable to vary the length of the bend. A leg 30 pivoted to the handle at 28 embraces a perforated quadrant to which it is secured by a screw 36 to vary the angle of the bend. The tool is placed over the fabric with the last of the series of wires to be bent against the guide 15 and is then lowered so that the wires pass through the slots 16 and is then moved laterally. The wires are bent by operating the handle, between the edge of the plate 18 and the hooks, and the bend is completed when the leg 30 engages the floor &c. on which the fabric rests. The hooks 13 are bevelled at 13* to facilitate removal of the tool after bending. The portion of the fabric projecting beyond the hooks is then pressed down, or this may be effected during bending of the fabric if the opposite bends in the fabric are effected at the same time by two tools operated by different operators. In the form shown in Fig. 6 this operation is performed at the same time as the bending operation by pivoting the handle 26* to the plate 11 at 40 and providing it with a cam projection 42 in engagement with a pivoted presser 48. The handle is normally held upright in relation to the plate 11 by a spring 50, which also holds the presser 48 elevated so as not to impede threading of the tool on the wires. The angle of the bend formed beyond the hooks is adjusted by a block 52 connected by slots and clamping-bolts to the handle and having teeth engaging similar teeth on the handle to assist the clamping-bolts.
