Feeding-devices for endless-belt elevators; rotary elevators.-Relates to refuse-collecting machines of the kind having an elevator provided with buckets into which the refuse is swept at the lower part of the elevator to be discharged downwardly at the upper part of the elevator, and consists in mounting self-contained buckets on pivots perpendicular or inclined to the plane of travel of the buckets, so that they maintain by gravity their refuse-holding position until they reach the top of their travel and are tilted to discharge their contents. As shown in Fig. 2, as applied to a machine of the kind described in Specification 166,270, the buckets 7 are mounted on pivots 5 carried by brackets 6 on the revolving frame 3 of the elevator. A pin 9 projecting from the rear of each bucket traverses a fixed slot 10 at the base of the elevator and another slot 15 at the top, whereby the bucket is held against rocking whilst receiving the refuse, and is also held inverted in the discharging position after being tilted by the ramp 13. In an alternative form, the buckets are mounted on universal joints, or gimbals, so as to be capable of pivoting about two axes, a limited motion about an axis in the plane of their path allowing the bucket mouths to drop close to the ground in the receiving position. The refuse discharged from the buckets may be delivered by an elevator 17 to a vehicle.
