MACHINE FOR TREATIN G AND SIMILAR MATERIAL.

To all whom it may concern:
.\ Be it known that I, VERNE E. MINIcIf,
a citizen of the United States, residin at New York city,'in the county of New ork and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Machines for Treating Sand and Similar Material, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawin s, forming a part of this specification.
Ify invention relates to machines for treating sand and similar material, and particularly to machines for treating sand used in foundries to prepare it for reuse.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and advantageous machine of the class specified.
Another object of the invention is to provide a machine especially adapted for treating foundry sand for reuse.
Another object of the'invention is to provide simple and improved mechanisms for treating or cutting the sand for reuse.
In the arrangement herein shown for carrying out my invention, I provide a material elevating -device for lifting the material to an elevated point, a screen to receive'the material from said elevated device and screen it, and a traveling belt device to receive the screen .material and discharge it to the floor.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a machine embodying my present invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of another form of device; and
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the machine shown in Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, I show a machine having a body frame 1, front wheels 2 and rear wheels 3. The front wheels 2 a-re'driven by a suitable power device, as for example, an electric motor 5 having power transmitting connection with the wheels 2, as for example, a worm and gear arrangement 6 and sprocket chains 7 and 8.
A traveling bucket conveyer 9 having buckets 10 is mounted at the front end of the machine and adapted to dig into the sand or other material and elevate the same. Said bucket conveyer is conveniently mounted on an upper shaft 11 and a. lower shaft 12 which latter is arranged in a slot 13 to permit a certain amount of movement of the lower end of the bucket conveyer to get 1t out of the way when not in use. The
.conveyer is preferably driven by a power generator such as an electric motor 14 hav ing a power transmitting connection with the elevated shaft 11 consisting of gears 15 and 16, bev'el gears 17 and sprocketchains 18. A screen 20 is mounted on themachine with one end adjacent and substantially below the upper end of the bucket conveyer 9 so as to receive the material from the buckets thereof. Y Said screen 20 is also preferably sloped in a rearward direction and is mounted for vibratory action by suitable mechanical or electrical means, as for example, a rotary cam 22 arranged to act against the under side of the screen and vibrate or shake the same. This cam 22 may be driven by suitable power transmitting connection.
A traveling discharge device such as the traveling belt 24 is mounted below the screen 20 so as to receive material therefrom. The belt device 24 is run continuously so that the material which it receives is conveyed toward the rear of the machine and then thrown rearwardly so that it will be discharged upon the floor to make a windrow as desired. The belt 24 may be driven by power transmitting connection from the motor 14, as for example, a sprocket 26, and the previously referred to agitating or shaking cam 22 may be driven by another sprocket 27 from the wheel at the other end of the belt 24.
Thus the material will be elevated by the bucket conveyer 9 and will then be discharged on to the vibratory or agitating screen" 20, by which it will be screened and from which it will be discharged on to the traveling belt discharge member 24 whence it will be discharged tothe floor as desired. The member 24 may if desired have pins 24 by which the material may be cut or broken as it falls on and is conveyed by said member.
Referring to the other form shown in Figs. 3 and 4, in this arrangement a rotary sand cutting member 30 having oppositely disposed spiral blades 31 and 32 is provided at the front of the machine in place of the bucket conveyer 9 of the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This rotary sand cutting device cuts the sand, blends and mixes it and throws it upwardly and rearwardly on to the screen 20 previously described in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, said screen being vibrated as previously referred to and being mounted over a traveling belt 24, as prevlonsly described. By this arrangement the material is also elevated and disc arged on to the vibratory or a itating screen 20 and then on to the traveling discharge belt or member 24, by which it is discharged rearwardly to the floor or otherwise as desired.
It will be understood that changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. A machine of the class specified com prising a wheeled vehicle, sand elevating mechanism mounted thereon, a screening device arranged to receive material from said elevating mechanism and provided with agitating means, and a traveling sand treating belt arranged to receive sand from the screening device and operative to project the same to a point at a distance from the machine.
2. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle, sand elevating mechanism mounted at one end of the machine, a vibratory screen located to receive sand from said elevating mechanism, means for vibrating said screen and a traveling sand treating belt located below the screen to receive sand therefrom and operative to project the same to a point at a distance from the machine, and means for driving said belt. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle, sand elevating mechanism mounted at one end of the machine, a vibratory screen located to receive sand from said elevating mechanism, means for vibrating said screen, a traveling sand treating belt located below the screen to receive sand therefrom and operative to project the same to a point at a distance from the machine, means for driving said belt, and independent power units for propelling the machine and driving the operating mechanisms thereof.
4. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle, a. rotary sand cutting lifting and throwing device at one end ject the same to a point at a distance rom the machine.

A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle, a rotary sand cutting liftin end of the ve icle, a screen to receive sand from said cutting device, means for agitatmg the screen and a sand treating belt located to receive sand from the screen and operative to project the same to a point at a distance from the machine.
6. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle, sand elevating mechanism mounted thereon, a screening device arranged to receive material from the sand elevating mechanism, and a sand treating device arranged to receive sand from said screening device and operative to project the same to a point at a distance rom the machine, said sand treating device and throwing device at one comprising a traveling belt provided with sand treating means.
7. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle, sand elevating mechanism mounted thereon, a screening device arranged to receive material from the sand elevating mechanism and a sand treatmg device arranged to receive sand from said screening device and operative to prm ject the same to a point at a distance from the machine, said sand treating means comprising a traveling belt provided with sand treating pins.
8. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle, a rotary sand cutting lifting and throwing device at one end of the vehicle, a screen for receivin sand from the cutting device, means for agitating the screen and a sand treating and discharging device comprising a belt having sand treating pins and arranged to receive sand from the screen and operative to project the same to a point at a distance from the machine.
