Lifting main frames manually.-Screw mechanism for adjusting wheeled ploughs &c. comprises a tubular body consisting of two connected members 9, 10, a perforated cage 17 disposed in one of the members, a manually operable screw 14 entering the tubular body and passing through the cage, and antifriction balls 19 mounted in perforations in the cage and engaging the thread of the screw. For adjusting the depth of work of ploughs, the member 10 is connected to a lever which carries a roller bearing on the cranked axle of one of the wheels, and the screw shaft 14 turns freely without longitudinal movement in a sleeve pivotally mounted in a bracket on the plough frame. The members 9, 10 are connected together by flanges and bolts, and one end of the member 10 is closed and provided with a perforated head 13 to facilitate connection to the part to be moved. The screw is of long pitch, and is rotated by means of a crank-handle 16. The cage 17 abuts against a shoulder 20 in the member 9 and enters a recess 21 in the member 10, rotation being prevented by a lug 23. A pin or projection 24 prevents complete withdrawal of the screw.
