Abstract

185,166. Rowland, L. D. May 18, 1921. Blow-down apparatus.-A blow-down valve for use in steam boilers is held in the inoperative position by the pressure in the boiler, and is adapted to close in the event of a sudden reduction of pressure in the blow-down pipe unless retained open by hand. The piston valve member 21 is secured to a spindle 23 by screwthreads and a lock-nut 22, and works in an externally screwed nipple 13 provided with ports It flush with the inside of the boiler 12 and connected by an angle 17 with the blow-down pipe. The upper end of the spindle is fitted with an adjustable stop collar and passes through a stuffing-box arranged in a bush screwed into the top of the boiler. The valve may be actuated manually by a pull-rod 36 guided at 37 and connected to the valve spindle by means of a bell crank lever 35.
