Abstract
184,651. Aldworth, G., and Hornett, A. C. June 30, 1921. Hair-waving.-A tube a, Figs. 1 and 3, is fitted with an inner rod b having end pieces b<1>, b<2> making close contact with the ends of the tube without longitudinal movement so as to prevent tearing of the hair. The end b<1> is slotted so that the root end of the hair may be secured thereto, while the end b<2> is milled and the end flattened to afford a secure grip. To permit relative rotation of the rod and tube in one direction only, an enlarged bore at one end of the tube a contains a ratchet device comprising a tube a<1>, Fig. 1,with teeth a<2> secured in the bore, and a toothed disc b<6> sliding on a squared part b<5> of the rod b and held in engagement with the teeth a<2> by a spring b<7>. The teeth b' may be formed on the end of a square tube surrounding the rod b and extending through the head b<2> so that it can be drawn back to disengage the teeth if it is desired to unwind the hair slightly. An alternative form comprises a coiled spring wire b<10>, Figs. 3 and 4, such as is described in Specification 10822/13.
