Abstract
184,447. Lavaud, D. S. de. Aug. 9, 1921, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing comprising a swash ring 10, Fig. 1, of variable inclination operating through ratchets 23 is rendered automatic as by the use of a spring 19, the gearing being specially suitable for motor-vehicles. An annular revoluble carrier 8 is pivoted upon a trunnion 7<a> upon a spherical part 7 of the driving-shaft 3, and holds in ball bearings 9 the non-revoluble ring 10. Rods 21 with ball ends communicate oscillation to the ratchets 23 which drive a sleeve 27<a>, Fig. 2, continuously in one direction. A double clutch 32 transmits this or reversed rotation to a driven shaft 24. The effect of the resistance is to tend to turn the carrier 8 about its trunnion to a perpendicular position, when the drive stops. This tendency is resisted by the spring 19, which is adjustable and is carried upon an extension 14 of the shaft 3. The spring 19 may be controlled by a pedal. Specification 183,456 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification with the carrier 8 connected to a non-sliding barrel within which the shaft 3 slides as the spring 19 functions to regulate the speed. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. (For Fig. 2 see next page.)
