Abstract

184,267. McNicol, R. A. May 7, 1921. Tension arrangements.-A tension regulating device for use in winding wire comprises freely rotatable grooved rollers 1, 2 which are carried on spindles 3 in a frame 4 and are arranged so that the bearings 5 of the lower rollers 1 are non-yielding while the bearings 7 of the upper rollers 2 are adjustable by the pressure-regulating device. The position of the lower rollers 1 may be adjusted by blocks 8 while the bearings 7 of the upper rollers slide in guides 9 and are arranged with springs 12 and a bridge-piece 10 provided with a regulating-screw 13; preferably, two springs and one regulating-screw are provided for each roller 2. The wire &c. 6 enters the frame 4 through a flared opening 15 and passes successively through a pair of rollers, a guide-tube 19, a second pair of rollers and emerges through another flared opening 16 being then attached to the device on which it ie being wound under tension, which device is suitably rotated. The frame 4 may be provided with lugs 17 to be secured to a bench or may be mounted on a central swivel pin. If desired, the wire mav be coated with paint &c. on its passage through the device, a box 21 with spring-pressed plates 22 and wads of cotton 25 between which the wire &c. is passed being provided adjacent to the opening 16. A supply tank 26 and pipe 27 are arranged as shown.
