Abstract

Commutator switching-arrangements; phase, changing; polyphase transformers.- In converting apparatus of the kind comprising polyphase transformers and commutating gear connected with a closed ring winding formed by coils of the transformers, such as is described in Specifications 140,853, 150,824, and 150,825, one or more supplementary windings, each forming a closed circuit linked with all the cores of one of the transformers, are provided for the purpose of forming a low-impedance path for currents which are required to flow to maintain the balance of ampere turns on the cores. In converting from three to thirty-six phases, six three-phase transformers, each with three cores, are provided, the primary and secondary windings being connected as described in Specification 178,190. The three cores of each transformer are linked together by a closed-mesh winding which may be constructed from the copper plates which serve to clamp the other windings on the cores. Some of the transformers may also be interconnected bv additional windings as described in Specification 178,190.
