Clutches, claw; operating belt-forks.-In a machine for rolling rubber and other plastic substances, the rolls are driven through a pinion g<1>, Fig. 4, keyed to a sleeve g<2> mounted on the shaft D and carrying fast and loose pulleys G, H. Movement is imparted to the pulley G either by power through a belt controlled by a shipper M or by hand through a crank mounted on an arm k<1> furnished with a dog k<11> adapted to engage recesses g<3> in the pulley. The arm k<1> is pivotally supported at k<12> in a cap k<2> mounted on the end of the shaft D and is formed with a bent end k<4> furnished with a dog k<5> adapted to operate the shipper M by engagement with a cam groove m<1>. A pin inserted in holes d<2> in the cap k<2> and shaft D permits the arm k<1> to be used only to control the shipper M; whilst the removal and insertion of the pin in holes k<6> in the cap and part k<13> positions the arm for hand driving. Fig. 7 shows a. modification in which the shipper M is operated from the arm k<1> through levers k<4>, N.
