Lifting-devices, power.-In a wheeled plough having cranked axles and lifting-mechanism actuated by rotation of one of the wheels, a device which is a modification of that described in Specification 165,373 is provided for coupling the lifting-mechanism to the wheel and also for disconnecting it when an obstruction is met with. The box 56 of the land-wheel is mounted on the spindle part 15a of the cranked axle 4, and is provided with a flange 57 having perforations 58 with which pins 85 are adapted to be brought into and out of engagement by the part rotation of a ring 66 provided with arms 67, 68, engaging with cams on a housing disc 54 rigidly fastened to the axle 4. The pins 85 pass through perforations 64 in a lifting-disc 63, which is linked to the plough frame by a curved bar 65. When the pins 85 enter the perforations 58 in the flange 57, the lifting-disc 63 is coupled to the land-wheel and the plough is lifted. When the plough has been raised, the pins are withdrawn automatically by the engagement of a projection 94 on the disc 63 with a rib 91 on the ring 66. The walls of the perforations 58 and the ends of the pins 85 are inclined or bevelled so that the pins are forced back and the lifting-mechanism uncoupled when the plough is backed away from an obstruction. The ring 66 is held in the position to which it is moved by a pivoted rod 78 and spring 79. It is grooved and cut away to receive a flange 82 on the ring 83 carrying the pins 85. The mechanism is controlled by a lever 87 actuated by pulling a cord. The lever is provided with a controlling-spring 92 and with a gravity dog 88 having a tooth 90 to engage with the rib 91 when the ploughs are in the ground and with the projection 94 when they are in their raised position. The ploughs descend by gravity after the pivot of the lifting-bar 65 has passed the dead centre.
