Shade-holders.-In lamp-shade supports of the type in which a lamp-shade is attached to the bulb of an electric lamp by resilient bulb-gripping arms, a universal joint is supported from the lamp bulb, and the lamp-shade from this joint, the shade being capable of angular adjustment to a variety of positions. In one form, the shade 5 is clamped to the ball 30 of a ball-andsocket joint by a handle 35 which screws on a threaded shank 34 attached to the ball 30. a washer 36 being interposed between the shade and the ball. The joint is formed by a sheet-metal cage 12 provided with upwardly bent vertical flanges 120, Fig. 4, having at their upper edges lugs 16 and having laterally-extending hook-shaped ears 18. A plate 22, Fig. 5, circular in form and provided with a central aperture 24, with slots 26 to receive the lugs 16 of the cage and equally spaced upwardly bent portions 25, is placed over the top of the case. The ball 30 is engaged by the cage 12 and rests on a washer 10 in the cage. Another washer 15 is provided between the plate 22 and the upper part of the ball. The stems 7 of the bulb-gripping coils 6 extend upwards through the hook-shaped ears 18 of the cage and have their upper ends 32 inwardly bent to pass into the space formed between the upper washer 15 and the bent portions 25 of the plate 22. The lugs 16 are bent back upon the plate 22 to secure the joint together.
