Abstract

June 23, 1921, Sleepers, composite; chair plates.-Chair-plates 7 carrying the rails are supported by fibre blocks 3 counter-sunk in cement or concrete sleepers, the bottom of the recesses in the sleepers being formed by a metal plate 4. The sleepers are reinforced by rods 12, 13; the ends of the rods 12 being upturned below the running rails and the ends of the rods 13 adjacent to the ends of the plate 4. The upper surface of the chairplates are stepped at points 7<a>, 7b to receive the clamps 11 and the outer edges of the rail flanges respectively. The parts are secured together by bolts 10 passing through diagonally arranged plates 9 let into recesses in the base of the sleeper. For use at curves, the sleepers or the chair-plates may have inclined upper surfaces.
