Abstract
180,040. Brõgger, W. Feb. 16, 1921. Sparking-plugs.-A ball 7, retained by the partly closed end 5 of the casing 2, is raised by the engine compression so as to seat itself against the end 15 of the insulator, where it is within sparking- distance both of the casing and the conical end 22 of the central electrode. Scavenging or the introduction of starting-fluid may be effected by a longitudinal passage 24 in the electrode. This passage may be axial or peripheral and may be used for starting in conjunction with the cupped end of the binding nut on the electrode. The insulation may be in one piece or may consist of two coaxial sleeves. It may be cooled by way of openings 31 in the gland 30.
