Abstract

179,812. Whitley, A. A. May 3, 1921. Air-heating fittings for use in domestic fireplaces comprise heating-pipes provided with flanges, collars, &c. on their outer surface to increase the heating effect. Several modifications are described and illustrated. Figs. 1 and 2 show a heating-pipe A; formed with flanges a<3> extending round the sides and back of the grate B. Air enters at a and passes out through a hollow fire-dog A<2>. Fig. 3 shows a form for use at the sides of a grate with front bars. The casting A has an opening a<4> for the passage of the combustion products, and is provided internally with a. mid feather a<5> to direct the heated air round the casing. The inlet opening a, may lead from another room, and the air passages in the heater may be horizontal, as shown in Fig. 6, whilst the pipes may have angles-pieces A<3> extending along the back of the grate, as shown in Fig. 9. The outlet a<2> may lead to a continuation A<2> in the fire-grate setting as shown in Fig. 12, where the heater is shown resting on a firebrick. In the form shown in Fig. 15, the inlet a and outlet a<2> are similar, so that the position of the heater can be reversed.
