Abstract

Hooks, spring, safety, slip, and closed.-A lever straining-coupler or fastenerdevice for chains, for example the main and lateral non-skid chains used with pneumatictyred vehicle wheels, consists of double fingers or frame members F, to which one end B of the chain is permanently secured by a pin e. At the opposite end these fingers have a recess x, and pivoted close thereto is a lever E, the pivot f being out of alignment with the recess and the pivot e at the upper end. The lever is also recessed, and when the loose end B<1> of the chain is slipped over it, as shown in Fig. 4 by dotted lines, the end may be forced in to the recess in the finger frame by the closing of the lever against a stop-pin g accompanied by a straining action upon the chain. In this position the arrangement is selflocking, so long as the chain is in tension. The method of use with the lengthways and crossmembers of anti-skid pneumatic tyre chains is described.
