Abstract
179,440. RÚthorÚ, N. May 17, 1921. Globes.-A terrestrial globe is built up of pentagonal and triangular pyramidal sections having spherical or plane bases bearing maps and forming a spherical or polyhedral globe when assembled. As illustrated, the globe is formed of thirty-two sections, twelve having a pentagonal base and twenty a triangular base, and can be divided into twelve different hemispheres corresponding to the six great circles shown. The sections may be complete solid pyramids or truncated solid or hollow pyramids. The radial faces of the sections are all similar and provided with similar fastenings. In the case of a polyhedral globe, map sections obtained by radial projection may be applied to the plane faces, or dome-shaped pieces may be provided to convert the polyhedral globe into a spherical globe.
