Abstract
178,915. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., and Mitton, J. Jan. 21, 1921. Moulding wheel tyres.-In a press for moulding and vulcanizing tyres of the kind in which one set of core segments is adapted to be retracted and removed to a different plane from the other set as described in Specification 15500/14, movement of the link mechanism actuating the core segments is controlled by springs. One spring H<2> only may be used, and is mounted between the lower end of the ram B<4> and the abutment H<1> on a vertical rod H, which is provided with a boss G' connected to the link mechanism controlling one set of core segments E. Alternatively, two springs may be used, one of which acts as described above, while the other acts on a sleeve loosely surrounding the rod H and connected to the larger core segments D. Springs J prevent the lower mould shell B from coming into contact with the tyre casing X before the latter makes contact with the upper mould shell A. The guide-plates F, G may be cored to receive heating-apparatus, and a dead weight may be suspended from the rod C' to prevent the guide-plate F from rising during expansion of the core segments.
