Abstract

178,074. Drolshammer, I. O. G. Feb 9, 1922. Fluid-pressure.-A driver's valve for a fluid pressure brakes system comprises a pressure-regulator a, Fig. 1, and a controlling-valve c. The regulator c is set to maintain the desired pressure by the lever d, and the valve e is rocked by moving the same lever d in a plane at rightangles. The valve e< >has< >two channels o. z, Fig. 2, giving two open positions and one closed position. Figs. 5 and 6 show a construction of regulator, the controlling-valve c being mounted. on the regulator housing a, and both valves being operated by a lever d. The pressure regulator comprises a piston g sliding on a rod b within a ported sleeve l. The rod b carries an abutment k for a spring i, and a piston h, and the valve g is under the influence of the spring i and of pressure fluid passing through a channel x to its upper end. The rod b is moved to set the valve by the handle d acting through the connections t, s, r. The handle d has a locking-pin 7 engaging a rack 6, and adjustable stop pins 9, 10 may be provided. The handle d and its connections are mounted on a rotary head 3, a segmental rack 5 on which is arranged to engage with a spurwheel 1 on the spindle of the controlling-valve e. The handle d thus serves to control the valve e and to set the pressure regulator. The inlet chamber v of the pressure regulator connects with the outlet of the valve c, and the inlet ports are controlled by the piston g. The ports o in the sleeve permit of discharge to the outlet connection c, and ports p are uncovered upon excessive downward movement of the piston g in order to reduce the pressure in the train-pipe connected with the outlet c. A stop q is provided on the rod b and arranged to move the piston g positively in the event of extreme upward movement of the handle d. Upon extreme downward movement of the handle d, the piston h contacts with the piston g. In this way the pressure in the train-pipe may be increased or reduced suddenly. The area of the inlet and outlet openings to the driver's valve may be adjusted by hand in accordance with the nature ot the train to be braked.
