Abstract

178,037. Soc. Anon. Usines G. Derihon. June 13, 1921, [Convention date]. Pneumatic springs. -Relates to shockabsorbers for motor vehicles &c. and of the kind described in Specification 14038/12 comprising a pair of rotary vanes carried by a shaft connected to the axle and arranged in a cylinder containing oil &c. and mounted on the chassis, the vanes being provided with valves which permit free movement of the axle away from the normal position but set up a resistance to the return movement thereof. According to the invention, the valves are replaced by a shutter 8 freely mounted on the hub 5 and positioned in a recess formed by cutting away one edge of the vanes 3, 4 carried by the hub. If the hub is given a clockwise movement, the vane 4 and shutter 8 separate at 12, and the vane 3 closes up against the shutter at 11 and rotates over an oil-passage 10 formed in the wall of the cylinder. Free rotation of the hub is thus permitted. On the return movement, the vane 4 closes up against the shutter 8 at 12 and compresses the oil in the lower left-hand portion of the cylinder, the oil escaping through a small orifice in the fixed partition 2.
