Abstract

Seats and seat backs, arrangement and disposition of.-In a motor vehicle having central steering and a centrally arranged seat for the driver, a folding or collapsable seat 4 is arranged at each side of, and to the rear, of the driver's seat and the engine and steering gear are combined to form one unit, the shaft of the steering wheel 12 passing between the V or horizontallyopposed engine cylinders and being connected to a vertical shaft 17 mounted on the front coverplate 14. The gear-operating lever 20 and the hand brake lever 21 are offset to permit clearance for drivers' legs. On each side, and to the rear of the centrally located seat 3 is disposed an auxiliary folding or collapsable seat 4, attached to a cross-bar 5 which may be detachable. The front and back edges of the auxiliary seats 4 may have cushion pads 9; the seats may be entirety removed or may be rolled up on to the cross-bar 5. The seats are accessible from either side of the vehicle without disturbing the driver. The body of the vehicle is in the form of a shell and the doors 2 extend about half the depth of the side so that continuous longitudinal members may be used in the body above the main longitudinal members at or about the floor level.
