Abstract
177,628. Rothstein, A. Jan. 17, 1921. Grant of Patent refused. Ashes, flue dust, and the like, collecting and removing.-In flushing apparatus for removing ashes, flue dust, and granular matter, flushing pans are interposed between the hoppers conta.ining the material and the discharge conduit. Fig. 1 shows the application to a boiler furnace; the flue-dust hoppers a being connected to the conduit d by pans b provided with hinged weighted doors i, on which the dust normally rests, and with inspection doors h<1>. A cistern k discharges intermittently into the pans b and is connected to the crest of the siphon n, which is provided with a hinged door o opened by the excess pressure created when the injectors pare used to clear the cistern. The injectors p are connected to the boiler or other pressure supply, and one is used for injecting water from the cistern s into the conduit d. A pan b with a side outlet, Fig. 3, may be used, the dust then resting on the floor of the pan and the door i being dips. pensed with. A suction pump may replace the siphon n. In a modification, the cistern k is dispensed with, a suction pump flushing the pansb which are supplied with water from a float chamber. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the dust is collected in a hopper a situated at the base of a chimney, the pan b being flushed through the siphon n by water from the cistern k.
