Abstract

A modification of the process described in the parent Specification in which a mixture of crude phosphate, alkali sulphate, and a loosening-substance is treated with hydrochloric acid gas, consists in treating the mixture of phosphate and loosening-substance with hydrochloric acid gas without previous admixture of alkali sulphate. The latter is added afterwards to convert the calcium chloride formed into gypsum. In this case the addition of an indifferent substance, such as sand, gypsum, infusorial earth, or dry brown coal to the mixture of phosphate and loosening-substance prevents caking during the course of the reaction. In an example, 100 kilos. of Florida phosphate mixed with 40 kilos. of crude lignite and 50 kilos. of sand are submitted to the action of hydrochloric acid gas, and the product is mixed with 80 kilos. of ammonium sulphate.
