Logs.-To avoid the necessity for providing a. packed bearing for the shaft of a submerged log rotator, the rotator casing and shaft bearing are filled with lubricant which cannot escape and which prevents the entry of water at all pressures, the shaft being mounted in a loose or unpacked bearing having a negligible variation of friction. The rotator shaft 9 is mounted in a casing 3 secured to a cylindrical holder 1 by arms 6 and screws 8. The casing contains a relatively long or extended sleeve bearing 10 and a step bearing 25 for the shaft 9, and is filled with oil &c. and sealed. The bearing 10 is preferably provided with recesses 23 into which the oil passes to form seals. Means for transmitting electrical impulses to the indicator comprise a worm 13 on the shaft operating a worm-wheel 14, to which is secured a disc 17 of insulating material carrying a contact 16 which co-operates with a contact strip 18 bearing against a conductor 20. The holder 1 is rigidly secured to the ship below the water line by the arm 2.
