Lighting-torches, non-electric.-A spirit lamp 11, Fig. 2, for use in producing a partial vacuum in closuring a container, has a central sheath 14, open at the bottom, which accommodates a ring 6 of asbestos or other absorbent material, a transverse plate 12 on a handle 8 attached to the ring normally covering the aperture 10 above the sheath. As shown in Fig. 3, the ring comprises a tube 18 packed with asbestos and provided with a slot 20 or a series of holes, and is attached to a fuel reservoir 21.
