Liquids, treating;. electrodes, moving; connections; preparing and treating surfaces; electrolytes, circulating.-An apparatus for treating liquids comprises a number of pairs of parallel flat electrodes g, g' mounted in grooved frames g<2>, g<3> secured to a shaft k.. Between the electrodes are disposed two sets of scrapers p mounted in frames o, o<1> connected by braces o<2>. Connecting-rods r, pivoted on either side of the frame o are also pivoted eccentrically to wheels q, gearing with a fixed circular rack s on the base of the iron container d. On rotation of the shaft k, the scrapers rotate with the electrodes, and are the same time reciprocated by the connecting- rods r, the vertical paths of the two frames o, o<1> overlapping slightly. The scrapers s may be strips of vulcanite or other dielectric. The electrodes have reduced extensions through which pass conducting-rods, one connecting all the positive electrodes, and one the negative. The two rods are connected by leads passing through the shaft k to conducting-rings m, m<1> with which contact is made by brushes. Spacing insulators j are mounted on the rods. The container is filled from a pipe connected to a pump and after purification is emptied by a pipe d<3>. The impurities, which rise to the top, are washed out by water from a perforated flush coil t and withdrawn through a pipe d<2>; valves are provided in all three pipes. Two containers may be connected by a T-joint with a single supply-pipe, one being filled and the liquid treated, while the other is being emptied and cleaned. The apparatus is particularly applicable to the purification of laundry liquids; a considerable amount of unused detergent remains in the liquid after purification.
