Catalytic apparatus; ammonia, catalytic production. of from nitrogen and hydrogen.-In an apparatus for the catalytic synthesis of ammonia., the electric heating-coil is disposed within but out of contact with the catalyst. The apparatus comprises two concentric iron tubes 5, 6 surrounded by a thick steel tube 4; the catalytic material is enclosed within the space between the tubes 5, 6, the tube 5 containing the electric heating-coil 7 arranged out of contact with the walls. The reaction gases enter the apparatus through passages 17, 9, 10, 2. pass along the heating-tube 5, then traverse the catalytic material and pass out of the apparatus through passages 3, 16, 15. 1 to an external ammoniacondensing apparatus. The arrangement of passages in the flanges 13, 13<a> forms a heatrecovery apparatus.
