Abstract
176,064. Turton, W. Nov. 3, 1920. Roller conveyer apparatus; electrodes, moving; electrolytes, circulating. - Metal sheets, strips, rods, tubes, angle-irons, &c. are coated by contact with a perforated hollow roller c, Fig. 3, covered with absorbent material to which electrolyte is supplied through a perforated tubular shaft o<3>. The electrolyte may be supplied to the shaft by a perforated stationary inner tube o<2>, liquidtight bearings being arranged between the tube and shaft at u, v. The tube-shaped covering l is enclosed in a calico sheath and is clamped to the ends m, n of the roller by band clips l<3>, l<4> bolted together at their ends. There are preferably two rollers a, c, Fig. 4, between which the sheets or the like are passed, the latter also engaging guide rollers f, g and pairs of conductive rollers h, i. The bearings u, v, Fig. 3, and the main bearings e<2>, e<3> are adjustable in the end frames to vary the nip of the rollers a, c. The lower roller is driven from a speed pulley j, to which the upper roller is connected by a belt. The anodes p enter holes r<2>, Fig. 5, in the side walls m, n and are clamped so as to be renewable by watertight glands r<3>. The anodes are provided with conducting-pins r<5> connected by yokes r<4> to contact rings s, Fig. 3, to which contact is made by brushes.,
