Prizing-tools; cramps.-Relates to valve-spring compressors of the kind wherein a yoke carrying a jaw at one end adapted to engage the valve spring is formed or provided at the other end with a frame or guide member adapted to slide on a valve-engaging rod, which frame member is caused to move upwardly on the rod so that the jaw on the lower end of the yoke compresses the spring, in which position the device may be held, and comprises also relatively movable jaws on the end of the yoke, a lever for actuating the frame member carried by the yoke, this lever being pivoted at an intermediate point to the valveengaging rod and connected by a link to the frame, and means for automatically holding the device in any desired position with the spring compressed. As shown, the yoke 10 is fitted at the lower end with a pair of spring-engaging jaws 11, 12, adjustable by a screw 13, and is provided at its upper end with a frame consisting of side plates 15, 16, secured to blocks 18, 19, Fig. 4, so as to provide a passage for the valve-engaging rod 14, which carries the operating-lever 25 connected by a link 26 to the sliding frame. The valve spring 29 is compressed by a downward pressure on the lever 25, and is automatically held compressed when the lever is released by means of a bar 23 wedged by a spring 22 between the rod 14 and an incline 24 on the block 18. The locking-bar 23 is releasable by a finger 31 connected to a thumb-lever 32.
