Abstract

Spring devices.-Resiliency between members of a cycle frame is obtained by a device shown in Fig. 1, wherein a cylinder 1 is fixed to one member and links 6 to the other member. The links 6 are secured to a square shaft 2 passing freely through the cylinder and a block 3 secured therein by set-pins 9. The block 3 has cam-faces 4 engaging corresponding faces of blocks 5, which are slidable on, and rotate with, the shaft 2. Relative rotation of the shaft and cylinder causes the blocks 5 to be urged apart against the pressure of helical springs 7. The ends of each spring may be recessed respectively into the block 5 and the cylinder 1, so that the springs are twisted as well as compressed; the cylinder being provided with a series of slots 8 for engaging the ends of the springs so as to vary their normal conditions. The device may be used as a link connection of spring forks, as shown in Fig. 3, or the links may be extended so as to form forks for the rear wheel. By providing arms 17, Fig. 5, on the cylinder, the device may be used as a shock-absorber between the ends of laminated springs of a motor-car &c.
