Abstract

174,168. Garcia., M. R. Oct. 16, 1920. Postmarking-machines; rotary machines; driving printing machines; printing-surfaces.-A machine for postmarking or otherwise printing on letters, post-cards, tickets, &c. comprises a frame A carrying three horizontal spindles B, N, G' which carry at one side the printing roller G, the impression roller O, and a rubber letter &c. feeding disc D, and, at the other side, gears e, e<1>, E, the gear e meshing with both the gears e<1>, E. The shaft G<1> is supported by a bracket F mounted on a fixed spindle f and engaged by a spring P, so that the roller G can adapt itself to the thickness of the letter &c. The bracket F may be adjusted by a set-screw L. The disc D coacts with a rubber sheet-separating disc I fixed by a screw i to a bracket J adjustably secured by a screw j to the spindle f, the disc I being set slightly in front of the line of contact of the rollers G, O. A felt inking roller H is carried by a frame h removably secured to the spindle f by a screw R. The printing roller G has the permanent matter to be printed engraved on its periphery and is provided with a diametral perforation to receive a block or die M carrying the date or other changeable matter. A disc g, having a number of signs engraved on its periphery, is adapted to be set in various angular positions by means of a pin projecting from the roller engaging in one of a ring of holes formed in the disc g. The disc g and block m are secured to the roller G by an axial screw m. The machine may be driven by a treadle or by a hand-wheel V on the shaft B, or the machine may be mounted on a stand carrying an electric motor which drives the machine through cord gearing- Fig. 8 shows a modification of the feeding arrangement particularly for use in feeding letters and' post-cards. The pile of letters &c. n is placed on a bracket T secured to the frame by a screw t, and the lowest letter is fed forward by a rubber disc d driven from the shaft B bv a chain. The disc I of the first-described machine is replaced bv a curved fluted member S of metal or other material held in operative position by a spring T.
