Abstract

173,603. Selas-Turner Co., Ltd., and Turner, E. Oct. 4, 1920. Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-A crucible furnace is heated by a ring burner l, the flames from which are projected vertically downwards into the space between the crucible and the inner wall of the crucible chamber, the outlet for the waste gases being at the bottom. The burner is mounted on a pillar r, on which it can be adjusted vertically by the screw t, and a swivel joint v in the support allows the burner to be tilted about an horizontal axis at right-angles to the supply pipe o. The burner can also be tilted sideways bv rotating the supply pipe o in its bearing p. The space between the crucible and the furnace chamber is closed by an annular plate i having flared apertures k in alignment with the coned nipples m of the burner. In a modification the burner ring is situated in a rebate in the furnace lining and the nipples m are bent so that they deliver vertically into the combustion space.
