Bolts and rolls of fabric; folding transversely; folding in more than one direction.-Apparatus for folding fabrics in steps in " Creafold " form comprises a supported cross-bar b, Figs. 1 and 3, upon which needle-carriers c are secured at the required intervals, an adjustable peak board e with clamping-devices e', e<2> to form a peak in one of the folds, and an adjustable rod i over which the material can be folded longitudinally and removed with the peak board. In use, the end of the fabric is suspended by its corner from the needle No. 1 and then carried to the needle No. 3, back to No. 1, and then to No. 2 and No. 6, and back to No. 2 and No. 1, as shown in Fig. 4. The fold between the needles No. 2 and No. 6 is then folded over the peak board e, the folded portions being secured by spring clips e<1>, e<2>. The remainder of the material is moved from needle to needle as shown in Fig. 4 and the fabric is then folded over an adjustable rod i. The fabric is removed from the apparatus together with the peak board and the rod i and is placed on a table. The folding is completed by removing the peak board and the rod and folding the fabric transversely. The method of folding in steps may be modified.
