Abstract
173,333. Muntz, W. E. Oct. 1, 1920. Fuel containers. -To prevent unauthorized abstract i o n of petrol from a petrol tank having a filling cap and a separate outlet, the tank has a vent 13, Fig. 3, inside the filling cap 3 which can be adjusted to the closed or open position while the cap is off but which is inaccessible when the cap is secured by a bolt 12 operated by a key inserted through the upper face of the cap. In a modification the flange of the cap is arranged to fit outside the rim of the filling opening. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 1, the venthole in an ordinary cap of a petrol tank is closed by a screw 8 and the cap is secured to the container by a padlock. The cap may have an interrupted screw thread so that it may be readily adjusted and locked in the screwed-down or partly open positions according to whether it is desired to prevent access of air to a gravity-feed tank or to prevent accumulation of pressure in a pressurefeed tank. the arrangement also preventing unauthorized use of the car.
