Abstract

Balls.-Relates to footballs of the kind in which the bladder and valve are inserted through a hole in the outer case and in which the said hole is closed by a piece of flexible material placed over the valve and secured thereto. According to the present invention a flexible disc 4 of sheet steel or similar material is clamped to the bladder by two metal discs 1 and 2. The outer disc 2 has a a central tubular stud 2a which screws into the lower disc 1. A valve is formed by stretching a sheet of rubber between the lugs 1<b> on the disc 1 so as to cover the port 1<a>, thus preventing the air from escaping. Leakage between the discs is minimized by annular grooves 1<c> in the surface of disc 1, and by holes 4b in the flexible disc 4, into which the bladder is pressed. The opening in the cover is filled flush with the outside surface by a dished leather disc 6<a> which is riveted to the disc 4 at one side only, by two rivets 5. The disc 4 together with the valve and bladder may be removed by bending the disc, which has its edges cased in leather or metal to prevent injury to the bladder. A socket connection 8 is fitted for inflating purposes, but during play this is removed and a screw stopper inserted.
