Abstract
221,938. Webber, G., and Webber, R. Aug. 28, 1923. Balls.-Relates to footballs, punching- balls, water - polo balls, &c., in which the usual aperture 1, Fig. 1, is closed by a shaped member 18, and comprises the reinforcement of the sides of the aperture by crossed strips 5 of canvas, rubber &c., which are secured at their sides 3 adjacent to the aperture and at their ends 9 to the casing. The strips 5 are so positioned as to prevent enlargement or distortion of the aperture. The neck 16 of the bladder 17 passes through a hole 15 in a flap 13 secured at one end to the casing, and through a corresponding hole 21 in the shaped' member 18 thus holding both the bladder and the member 18 in position. The member 18, Fig. 6, is dished centrally to conform to the shape of the aperture 1, and is provided with a reinforcing layer 19 on its under surface.
