Moving-chamber apparatus; varying quantity measured in. -Apparatus for delivering bv gravity, from granular or pulverulent material contained in a holder, either any desired quantity or an automatically measured quantity, comprises an horizontal bracket arm 1 provided with an aperture, a funnel 2 having a small opening at the base and a shutter plate 4 sliding on the bracket arm for opening and closing the aperture therein. The container is secured in an inverted position in the funnel, and this may either be fixed to the bracket arm or to the shutter plate, as shown in Fig. 2, so that it can be moved into or out of register with the aperture 7 in the bracket arm, the granular material being delivered into a container 16 when the aperture in the funnel is over that in the bracket arm. When employed to deliver a measured quantity of the material, the funnel is secured to the bracket arm over the aperture and a measuring-chamber 9, open at the top, is provided with a spring-closed flap 10 at the lower end. In the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, the powdered material passes through apertures in the bracket arm and the shutter plate, these apertures being closed when the shutter plate is moved forward. The flap 10 is opened at the end of the movement by a chain 13 to discharge the contents into a container 12. The measuring- chamber 9 may be removable and its capacity may be varied by the insertion of a smaller one therein in the manner described in Specification 2488/02. An alternative method of varying the capacity consists in making the measuring- chamber telescopic, adjustment being effected by screw-and-nut devices in co-operation with scales showing the positions for various quantities.
