Abstract

170,783. Blackburn, A. E., and Blackburn, R. Dec. 17, 1920. Roundabouts.-Relates to roundabouts fitted with cars which are revolved about axes carried by the main revolving platform. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which the main platform is tilted during its revolution. The platform 24 is carried on radial arms 25 connected to a centre plate 26 which is supported by struts 2 fixed to a disc 4. The disc 4 is carried by a sleeve 3 which revolves on the main shaft 5 and is driven through gears 13, 16, &c., by a motor 15. The cars 40 are mounted in pairs on brackets 38 carried by shafts 35 passing through the platform and driven by chains 3'7 gearing with pinions 32 on or geared with the shafts and with a stationary pinion 31 on the main shaft 5. Alternate shafts are geared directly and through a carrier pinion with the pinions 32 so that adjacent pairs of cars revolve in opposite directions. The main shaft 5 is mounted on a horizontal axis and is oscillated by a crank and connecting rod driven by the motor 15. A staging 41 surrounds the roundabout and gives access to the cars. Each car may be made to rotate on its axis, in addition to its other motions.
