Race games, mechanical.-Relates to apparatus of the type in which objects 19, Fig. 2, are propelled from a starting to a finishing post by means of cords 14 attached to the objects and to winding-spools 6 slidably mounted upon driving shafts 1 having hand-wheels 4 and speed-governors 5, which automatically disconnect the spools from their shafts when the speed of the latter exceed a predetermined maximum, and consists in providing means for automatically disengaging the spools from their shafts when any one of the objects reaches the finishing post. As shown, the spools are maintained in driving connection with their shafts by arms 8, secured to a common shaft 9, which is controlled by the attendant. The shaft 9 is held in position through an arm 33, Fig. 3, connected by a link 34 to a pawl 35, which is pivoted to the casing and engages a depending stop-pawl 37 carrying the armatures 38 of an electromagnet 32. On one of the objects reaching the finishing-post, it engages a plunger 40 carried by a contact 27, Fig. 4, which completes first the circuit through the lamp 30 situated above the object, and then that through the electromagnet, thus releasing the stop pawl and allowing the arm 33 to fall and the spools to disconnect from their shafts. The objects then fall to the starting-post and the contact 27 engages permanently with the contact 26 and maintains the circuit through the lamp situated above the winning object. At the commencement of a race, the spools are simultaneously engaged with their shafts through a cord 41, which is attached to the link 34 or the arm 33 and actuated by the attendant.
