Abstract

169,245. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Pontiac Lawn Mower Co.). June 18, 1920. Lawn-mowers.-A lawn-mower adapted to be propelled and guided manually is provided with a motor for driving the rotary cutter and with means for putting the ground wheels into driving- connection with the cutter shaft when it is required to drive them. The machine comprises a rotary cutter A, a stationary knife-bar C, ground wheels F, an adjustable roller G, handles N, and a light frame including side plates D and crossbars E. A light two-cycle motor H drives the cutter spindle through chain gearing J and a friction clutch. The ground wheels F are mounted on a shaft P carried by spring-controlled pivoted arms Q connected to a lever T bv an arm R and rod S. By moving the lever T the wheels F may be placed in driving contact with friction rollers O on the cutter spindle. Bv reversing the engine the cutter A may be driven backwards for sharpening purposes. The batteries, coil, and control switch are enclosed in a housing on the frame.
