Abstract

348,059. Motor lawn-mowers. BROOKE, J. M., Adrian Works, Lowestoft, Suffolk. Jan. 28, 1930, No. 2976. [Class 6 (ii).]' In a lawn-mower adapted to be manually propelled, but wherein a motor 19 is provided for driving cutting-blades 15, the motor 19 is mounted on a platform 18 above a main roller 10, and one end 2 of the motor shaft is arranged to drive the blades 15, and the other end of the shaft is adapted to drive any one of a number of small accessory devices, as by attaching a flexible shaft 38 to a sleeve 36 fixed to the shaft. The motor 19 drives the blades 15 through a slip clutch comprising friction discs 20, 21, the latter being splined to a shaft, coaxial with the motor shaft, and operatively connected to the shaft 14 of the blades as by a sprocket drive, with reduction gear if necessary. The cutter drive may be disconnected and the motor used to drive an accessory device alone. For an electric motor, current is obtained by a flexible conductor 34 from mains, a control switch 35 being provided. A small roller 16 and a support 17 for a grass-box may be provided in front, and the mechanism may be protected by a cover.
