Abstract
a -Naphthoquinone, by heating with water, produces, in addition to a -naphthohydroquinone, a yellow condensation product, which forms an intermediate product for the preparation of dyestuffs. Subsequent treatment with acid or neutral reducing-agents converts the yellow product into a green compound, which is adapted for the preparation of pigments and paints; the same green condensation product is also obtained by protracted boiling of a -naphthoquinone with water, since the a -naphthohydroquinone formed is itself a reducing-agent. The green condensation product in the presence of alkaline reducing-agents furnishes a yellow vat which dyes fast green shades on vegetable and animal fibres; the green product may also be padded or printed on the fibre in known manner. Examples are given of dye vats for wool and cotton yarn by using the green condensation product in a bath of sodium sulphide or hydrosulphite; and of padding, printing, and discharge printing mixtures.ALSO:a -Naphthoquinone, by heating with water, produces, in addition to a -naphthohydroquinone, a yellow condensation product, which is converted into a green product by treatment with acid or neutral reducing agents.
