Abstract
168,441. Jones, O. G. June 12, 1920. Wheel-guards and obstruction-removers. - A tramcar obstruction-remover comprises a main section 1 provided with side wings 17 secured to a transverse hinged bar 2 and a secondary section 9 hinged to the main section by a curved bar 10 which is rigidly fixed to the secondary section framing. A flexible member 12 is secured to the car at 14 the other end passing over a segment 11 and is attached to the secondary section. A crank arm 4 is secured to the bar 2 and is operated by pneumatic pressure through pistonrod 7 and converting-rod 5, the pressure supply being under the control of the driver by means of a valve 18. At the end of the secondary section are shoes 15, which engage in the grooves in the rails when the guard is let down. When air is admitted to the rear end of the cylinder, the guard is raised, the secondary section 9 folding back in a clockwise direction against the main section 1.
