Abstract

166,581. Lewis, I. N. Jan. 16, 1919. Magazines.-Relates to magazines of the type comprising a detachable depending box 20 in which the cartridges 12 are held in two staggered columns, the side walls of the box being shaped at the top to guide the uppermost cartridge into a central position ready to be fed forwards into the gun chamber by the breechbolt. According to the invention, the side walls are shaped at the top to fit at 26 the rear end of the uppermost cartridge to guide the cartridge during the first part of its forward movement and then allow it to move upwards under the action of the spring-pressed follower 23 into line with the gun chamber. The magazine, which is shown applied to the automatic gun described in Specification 166,579, has an aperture in its forward wall to fit over a pin 32 in the feed opening and an aperture 35 in its rear wall to coact with a spring catch 33 operated by a finger-piece 40 adjacent the gun trigger 2. The magazine has inwardly projecting ribs 24 to reduce the surface in engagement with the cartridges. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 15786/88 and 17197/88.
