Abstract
166,168. Mascord, G. W. July 10, 1917. Drying - apparatus. - In fast intaglio machines, or intaglio printing - apparatus of typographic machines, the web is heated immediately before each intaglio impression, to accelerate the drying of the impressions, by passing the web over heated cylinders or casings. The casings may be movable away from the web when it is at rest &.c. Suction chambers may also be provided to draw off heated air and vapour from the surface of the web. As shown in Fig. 1, the web is passed round a heated cylinder b near the first impression cylinder m<1>, and round a heated cylinder b<1> near the second impression cylinder m'. Chambers n open on the sides next to the printing and impression cylinders m, m<1> are exhausted through suction pipes n'. As shown in Fig. 2, the web passes between pairs of heated casings c, and suction chambers n are provided as shown in Fig. 1. Sets of nozzles d for spraying heated air on the web may also be provided. The casings c may be separable, as shown in Fig. 4, by means of pairs of toggle links j which move them along guides l. The links j are connected by a rod i movable by a lever h operated by a nut h<1> and screw h<2>.
