Mines, marine.-Relates to mines and depthcharges of the kind in which a spring striker is cocked gradually and automatically as the body sinks through the water and is released automatically to fire the mine on reaching a predetermined depth, and consists mainly in means for .adjusting the stroke of movable parts of the mechanism according to the depth at which it is desired the mine shall explode. As shown. in Fig. 1, the spring 9 of the striker 1 is cocked by an hydrostat, and the striker is released by the balls 2 when a recess 7 in a sleeve 6 movable with the hydrostat comes opposite, these balls. The initial position of the sleeve 6 is adjusted by a nut 8 which can be rotated bv means of a milled head 12. If impact occurs before the appointed depth is reached, a ring 15 at the end of the sleeve 6 sets forward against springs 16 on account of its momentum, and releases the balls 2. In a modification, the spring striker is cocked by a vane-wheel which is rotated by the water. Modifications of the impact firing-device are also described, one of which comprises a jointed pendulum.
