Abstract

165,102. Svenska Ackumulator Aktiebolaget Jungner. June 21, 1920, [Convention date]. Cases; cells; connections.-A number of cells joined in series are arranged one within another to form a battery. Fig. 3 shows one form in which an outer metal casing 2 is divided into two compartments 23, 24 by a metal partition 22, each compartment forming the receptacle for electrodes 9, 10 and enclosing a second metal container 25 forming the receptacle for electrodes 7, 8. The container 25 encloses a third container 1 which forms the receptacle for electrodes 5, 6, the electrode 5 being provided with a tubular terminal 12 serving also as a filling aperture for the container 1. The second tubular terminal 13 projects from an electrode in the inner container in the compartment 24. The positive and negative electrodes of adjacent cells are connected together through the metal containers thus forming six cells in series. Electrolyte is introduced into the cells through openings 14, 15, 16, and the cells are insulated from one another by collars 17, 18. Modifications are described in which various numbers of cells are employed. Fig. 5 shows four cells formed by dividing the outer casing 2 by a partition 22, each compartment so formed containing a cell 1, 3 mounted at the top. Electrolyte may be introduced into the cells 1, 3 through spaces round the terminals 12, 13. The cells may contain an alkaline electrolyte, the containers being made of iron, nickel, nickel-steel, &c. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), states that the inner containers may be made of insulating material. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
