Abstract
Process for manufacturing batteries, and more particularly for constructing a multicell battery in which the container has at least one partition dividing the interior space of the container into multiple cell compartments and wherein the container is composed of an upper portion and a lower portion, the upper portion having an intercellular plate connector extending through each partition, characterized by: (a) placing a stack including positive and negative electrodes alternately spaced in each cell compartment of a portion of the container; (b) sealing together the upper and lower portions of the container; (c) connecting the positive electrodes of the stack of a cell compartment to one end of an intercell plate connector; (d) connecting the negative electrodes of the stack of the cell compartment adjacent to the other end of that intercell plate connector; (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) above until both ends of all the intercell plate connectors are connected to electrodes; (f) connecting the positive electrodes of the stack of an end cell compartment to an end cell connector of this compartment; (g) connecting the negative electrodes of the stack of the other end cell compartment to an end cell connector of this compartment; (h) sealing a lid on the container; (I) extending a terminal from the positive endplate connector of an extreme cell compartment to the outside of the lid; and (j) extending a second terminal from the negative endplate connector of the other end cell compartment to the outside of the lid.
