Abstract

1481454 Constructing batteries L D CHAR and R S SHANBHAG 23 Sept 1974 41367/74 Heading H1B A multi-cell battery includes an inter-cell connector comprising two plate portions each having a plurality of parallel slots therein, the plates being connected by an integral arched bridge portion. A cell, Fig. 6B, for a lead acid battery comprises a plurality of positive and negative plate 12 with separators therebetween, the plates having lugs 11A, 11B which project through suitable apertures in an inert, insulating lid 1. The projecting lugs are surrounded by walls integral with the lid as shown and the battery is assembled using intercell connectors of the type shown in Fig. 9C which comprises two comb portions 15A, 15B connected by a bridge 15, the comb portions fitting between the lug groups of opposite polarity plates of two adjacent cells. The lugs and comb portions are welded together to form the battery and at each of the two extreme lug groups a terminal with comb portion for a base is applied.
