Abstract

163,536. Watts, H. C. March 16, 1920. Screw propellers.-Relates to air screws in which two or more independent blades are removably secured in split sockets on the boss by annular flanges and consists in arranging each flange to bear against an annular member housed in the socket. The blade a takes into a socket b and has an internal sleeve c and an external sleeve d. The blade a is bent to form a flange a<1> and is attached to two flanges e, f, of which the portion e is arranged to bear against the shoulders b<2>. In a modification, the flange f is formed as a plate and its edges are upturned to bear against the socket shoulder whilst the flange e is omitted and the sleeve c and root of the blade a are inturned inwardly and secured to the plate f. In another form, the sleeve d is stepped or its outer end is faced and bears against the socket shoulder, and the blade root is turned back on itself to encircle the bottom of the sleeve. The sleeve d may be screwed into the socket.
